Sport at Priory

As a school, we are very proud of our sporting achievements. Sport receives a high profile in the school, and we are proud of having achieved the Sainsbury School Sports Platinum Award, one of only 104 schools in the country to achieve this. This is in recognition of the opportunities for sport within school, and the many competitions we are involved in.

There are a wide variety of sports to get involved in:

- Cross-Country

- Athletics

- Football

- Hockey

- Cricket

- TAG Rugby .... and more!

One of our highlights during the year is the County Cross Country Championships - which we organize and hold at Priory Park - a short distance from the school. We are usually joined by around 60 other schools. Last year, over 800 children competed - it was a magnificent event!

We are also keen to inspire our children with sporting visitors and we have enjoyed visits from Olympians: Sean Rose, Goldie Sayers, Larry Achike, Christian Malcolm and Charlie Walker, Paralympian,  over recent years.

The school, like others, receives Sports Funding from the government, as part of the Olympic Legacy. For details on how this is spent, please see:

School Games

We receive recognition for our sporting provision at the school through the School Games Mark.

We currently hold the Platinum Gold Mark - which we are extremely proud of!
Children's Leadership in PE

During the children's time at Priory Junior School, we ensure they have many opportunities to be involved in organising and leading physical activities for other children.
This may be within the PE lesson itself, or at break and lunchtimes. Children in Years 5 and 6 are trained to be Play Leaders, and as part of their role, they organise activities for children to take part in during lunch-times.
